I see a S&NY tank car in the background. In Monroeton there is a business with a riveted tank that looks like it could be from a yank car, if I remember correctly. Do you know if this is a S&NY remnant?
John,
I’m not familiar with that business, so I couldn’t really speculate. According to the October 1940 ORER, there were still 5 tank cars on the roster, I think they were ACF Type 7 8000 gal. type, similar to the F&C HO scale kit. Beyond that, I don’t know.
Thanks we are heading up that way tomorrow. Our cabin is at the other end of Kellogg Mtn from Monroeton. I’ll see if I can locate the tank again. If I remember correctly it might have been a feed mill or something. It’s been ten years or more since I saw it..
I’ll hit Powel along the way and look for the station. The red painted shed looks awfully familiar to me. I think the roof line caught my attention.
I’m always keeping my eyes open on our outings.
I was raised in Williamsport. Back in 1969, I hiked the S and NY roadbed on a Historic Trails Hike with Troop 38 from St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Loyalsock TWP. I have some pcs of S & NY RR Passes and Tool Checks which I would like to share. I someone in the S&NY Society can send me a link to the site, I will Forward Pics.
Thanks for your interest. There is no “S&NY Society” per se. This is pretty much it, though there is a FB group about the S&NY and occasional S&NY content on the FB Elmira Branch group. You could post any pics there, or if you want to forward them to me I can post them up here.
