I love this site! I grew up in Williamsport, but I now live in Houston. I have hiked the S&NY, and love it. I have a few cut throat spikes from the S&NY which I found in the 80’s. I also have a pack of matches from the S&NY which are wood matches enclosed in a cardboard package with yellow cover with a green logo. I don’t think this packaging lasted long, because when you pull out a match it lights. Oh the joy of pre Consumer Product Safety Commission Stuff! I will post a pic soon, along with my HO S&NY hopper model S&NY 1429, which I modeled from the ‘Story of the Susquehanna and New York’, which I bought at English’s Model RR Supply in the 70’s. Please tell me that Bill Caloroso will publish a book based on this site! I want One!!!!!!
Hoping to take my Eagle Scout son up to the S&NY Trail for a hike.
John,
I would love to see a photo of the matchbox. I have never seen such an item before. I doubt Mr. Caloroso will ever do a book, as I understand his health is poor, though I believe his son may restart the rail photo business.

John,
You are not the only Pennsylvania native who now lives in Texas! I have to many memories to share here about my love of Central Pennsylvania and the S&NY. I now live in Wimberley, Texas, in the hill country sothwest of Austin.
A friend who lives in Austin was born Emporium, PA. The world gets smaller every day! We are live steamers and see each other every Saturday to work on our locomotives.
I have the third edition of the S&NY, the large copy with 88 pages. Also have one of the original copies, the small version.
This web site on the S&NY is the greatest!!!
